IMPOSSIBLE LIBRARYThis exhibition is not showing what are generally known as artists books: they are books non books, pre-books, post- books, pro and anti books, Archetypes of books and works of art.
In these works there are many memories of surrealist, dadaist, conceptual art all translated in a contemporary contest. The book is in this exhibition is not really a book but it is its mental representation as seen by the artists. Maybe the books are hidden or maybe they really do not exist. But nevertheless they have a function: They want us to think , to think again and maybe to smile. It is really an impossible library which if it was full only of these kind of works , would not need shelves but show cases, where it would not be possible a normal cataloging because each object has its own code. If these books are not made for reading or for turning the pages or for borrowing they can be looked at and in front of them we can have memories of what happened and what could happen in our world of arts and in a wider sense in the world in general. Sometimes the objects keep the resemblance of a book but more in the form of abstract sculpture: the “volume” in space that the object/book has taken. This selection from this collection wants to represent a wide even if small panorama of some important Italian artists who wanted to experiment with a different form of expression. This exhibition has represented Italy also at:
